Some tourists on their customary safari through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area were pleasantly surprised today, Wednesday, July 9, 2025, when they observed the arrival of the Uhuru Torch (Freedom Torch) as it entered Karatu District from Ngorongoro in the Arusha Region.
Visitors were observed stopping their vehicles to witness the iconic national torch being carried around the neighbourhood, with torchbearers in great spirits, cheering on the throng and electrifying the scene.
"Today was a really significant event for me. While in Tanzania, I finally got to see the Uhuru Torch for myself. I've studied extensively about its history and how it draws Tanzanians together. "Seeing that unity in action has been truly inspiring," said Ms. Gracay Anderson, a Hungarian tourist.
What impressed the tourists the most was the large crowd of locals who gathered at the Karatu junction to welcome the torch and accompany it around the district. The parade comprised government officials, political and religious leaders, and Maasai, Datoga, and Hadzabe artists.
"I loved seeing how Tanzanians came together in unity to run with the torch," stated Mr. Lionel Greenwich of the UK. "Back home, we mainly read about Tanzania and its attractions, but now I believe what they say: this is a calm country. It's apparent that your leaders have done an excellent job of fostering unity and cooperation among the people."
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area continues to draw an increasing number of international tourists. In recent months, there has been a noteworthy increase in visitors, thanks to the government's and private sector players' collaborative efforts to promote Tanzania's tourism riches around the world.
