Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba has given the Ministry of Water a two-week period to ensure it completes the process of acquiring contractor for the construction of a water project from the source of Lake Chala.
He issued the order while speaking to the people of Marangu-Kitowo ward, Rombo District in Kilimanjaro region after receiving information on the construction of the Water Project from the source of Lake Chala, the construction of the Holili (Rotima)-Tarakea (Nayemi) road project, as well as laying the foundation stone of Stephen Moshi Technical Secondary School.
Dr. Mwigulu has said that the construction of the project should begin as it is expected to solve the challenge of water access in the entire Rombo District.
For his part, the Minister of Water, Jumaa Aweso, has said that the Ministry will not be an obstacle in the implementation of the project and will ensure that within 14 days they find a contractor for the project.
The Lake Chala water project is expected to cost about a billion shillings. 8.66 and will benefit 34,104 citizens in 14 villages in Rombo district.
Likewise, His Excellency Dr. Mwigulu has instructed the Minister of Finance to ensure that he seeks funds to make an initial payment to the contractor to begin construction of the 52.8 kilometer Holili (Rotima)-Tarakea (Nayemi) road project.
The project, which will cost about 28 billion shillings, runs along the Tanzania-Kenya border and is expected to help promote social, economic and tourism activities.
Speaking after laying the foundation stone for the construction of Stephen Moshi Technical Secondary School which will cost 1.6 billion shillings, His Excellency Dr. Mwigulu said that the school is an example of the presence of a leader with vision and plans.
"Within a very short period of time, more than 103 schools of this type have been built across the country," said Dr. Mwigulu.
The project will involve the construction of 08 classrooms, 02 offices, 01 IT room, chemistry and biology laboratories, 4 dormitories for girls and boys, 01 playground, 01 garage, 08 toilet stalls for girls and boys, and a waste incinerator.
It will also involve the excavation of an underground water well, an administrative building and 01 servant's house.
