AFDP COMMITS TO INCREASING ACCESS TO QUALITY SEEDS IN TANZANIA

The Agricultural and Fisheries Development Programme (AFDP), in collaboration with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), has pledged to continue investing in the production and accessibility of quality seeds to enhance productivity among farmers in the country.

This was stated by the delegation lead, Ms. Nester Mashingaidze, during a field visit to Kilosa District in Morogoro Region, where she met with local farmers benefiting from the programme, which aims to boost the production of maize, sunflower, beans, and leguminous crops.

“We aim to increase access to quality seeds through collaboration with institutions such as TARI, ASA, and TOSCI, ensuring more farmers are reached efficiently,” said Ms. Mashingaidze.

On his part, Mr. Salum Mwinjaka, the Programme Coordinator from the Prime Minister’s Office, noted that AFDP is being implemented across 11 regions of mainland Tanzania as well as the islands of Unguja and Pemba. He emphasized that the programme focuses on climate-resilient agriculture, nutrition, and gender equality.
